La Madrastra
El proyecto “La Madrastra” en Balmaceda Arte Joven Valparaiso es la continuación de una serie de exposiciones llamadas “Centro Cultural Casa Lobo” (en Centro Cultural de España y Galería Macchina). En estas muestras, usamos las salas de exposiciones como un centro cultural propio dirigido por nosotros. Dentro de este centro cultural parásito, organizamos una serie de muestras que jugaban con el tema del nepotismo en el arte. Todos los expositores del centro eran miembros de nuestras familias (padres, hermanos, tíos, abuelos, etc). En una de estas exposiciones, nuestras madres descubrieron un personaje común en nuestros árboles familiares. La madrastra de la abuela de León (María Bordeu, personaje maligno en la mitología de su familia) resultó ser tía-abuela de Cociña. Este es el punto de partida narrativo de la exposición, que usamos para crear un video, diversos objetos y una instalación en el lugar de exposición.
También incluimos en la muestra las creaciones de las participantes del taller “Arte y Espiritismo”, en el cual invitamos a los participantes a crear obras por medio de la personificación de un familiar muerto o distante.
The project “La Madrastra” at Balmaceda Arte Joven Valparaiso is the continuation of a series of exhibitions called “Centro Cultural Casa Lobo”. In these shows, we used the exhibition space as our own cultural center run by us. Within this parasite cultural center, we organized a series of exhibitions revolving around nepotism in art. All exhibitors of the center were members of our families (parents, siblings, uncles, grandparents, etc). In one of these exhibitions, our mothers discovered a common character in our familiar trees. The stepmother of León’s grandmother (María Bordeu, an evil character in the mythology of his family) turned out to be Aunt-grandmother of Cociña. This is the narrative starting point of the exhibition, which we used to create a video, various objects and an installation at the exhibition site.
We also included in the show the creations of the participants of the workshop “Art and Spiritism”, in which we invited the participants to create works by means of the personification of a dead or distant relative.
